Creative Adventure Summer Art Program, CASAP, celebrated its 18th anniversary and final session in 2018. Over the years, students ages 7 to 12 learned various artistic techniques from local artists, including Photography, Pottery, Drawing, Painting, Collage, Printing, Drama, and Poetry.

Each year, the program provided a safe, creative, stimulating learning environment. Students gained hands-on experience and built skills under the guidance of St. Croix’s leading artists. Several of the featured artists who taught over the years included: Sara Lee Hayes (Pottery), Elisa McKay (Collage Art), Yemaya Jones (Textile Art), Therese Trudeau, Elwin Joseph, and Lucien Downes (Watercolor Painting), David Berg and Thomas Eimer(Photography), Danica David and Carolyn Hawkins (Recycled Art Papier Mache), and Dembaya Arts (African Dance), Maria Aurora Stiles (Basket Weaving and Natural Textile Dyeing) among many others. The program was partly funded by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and other sponsors.

Class sizes remained small to enhance student learning, and space was limited. Families were encouraged to enroll early. Lunches and afternoon snacks were provided by the St. Croix Summer Feeding Program.

The program officially ended in July 2018, leaving a legacy of inspiring creativity among St. Croix’s youth. Since founding CASAP in 2001, David has dedicated herself to nurturing young creativity in the community. Many former students continue to use their skills and appreciation for the arts today. David now focuses on teaching, writing books, creating murals, and expanding her artistic work. She is grateful for the opportunity and support that guided and inspired many young artists.
